GMRS radio hardware

Tytera MD-390 $160I recommend GMRS radios as a backbone community communications system. I published a recommendation for handheld radios back in April this year… see http://www.bitterrootbugle.com/2018/04/08/handheld-radio-recommendation/. I will not repeat all of that detail or links here. I have not changed my suggestion, but am documenting more hardware in this post to make for a complete home and mobile set for the family. Your first move into GMRS radio is, according to me, getting a TYT MD-390 for $160. Everything built in. One tidy package. One modest price. For $25 and up you can get various BAOFENG models that can do two-way GMRS communications. Those are quite different in operation and have a learning curve that frustrates many new owners […]

heal thyself

I have been pushing the old body pretty hard in anticipation of this day. While I know it officially begins with the Winter Solstice on Friday, December 21, 2018, my activities shift to winter mode when the ground becomes frozen and unworkable. Today, November 30th is that day. While Intellicast.com and the National Weather Service are often incorrect, I’m not betting against this particular prognostication. It feels about right to me. Game over for new construction, yard improvements and anything that involves moving dirt. Temperatures consistently below freezing also make outdoor work a lot less fun and inspire me to limit my hours outside protective shelters. This day where I shift from outdoor to indoor modes came a little later […]

left hook

The Sandy Hook school shooting hoax was, and still is used as a reason, an excuse to take firearms away from us. We need to solidly understand that the shooting story is and always was fiction, and such flimsy fiction as to be easily shot full of holes. A few things came my way recently that relate. I share this fresh-to-me information here. For one, the startling resemblance of the supposed shooter and the “kid” who became a national spokesman for gun control after the staged, fake school shooting in Broward County Florida … yeah, THAT Broward County. A few years older, but the same guy. Are there really so few sold-out actors they have to keep re-using them? Apparently […]

the dark side of 5G

Last year, 5G came to Darby, Montana – population 720 For most of the summer expensive equipment was operated by a dozen or more transient workers at remote-from-home duty stations with food and lodging included in the cost of each well-paid technician. WooHoo! We have fiber-optic high-speed cable Internet. I celebrated reliable unlimited Internet along with everybody else around here. I drove past the cable crew around the county week after week after week wondering how in the world do a handful of us pay for this? I shrugged that question off as I went about the rest of the business I call “life”. It was some obscure grant from somewhere… for the children, of course. But now I am […]

inexplicable fires made splicable

I have seen numerous analyses with maps and photos explaining a few of these. This video compilation does a good job of taking viewers to several anomalies that natural fire behavior cannot explain. In each case, powerful forces of the perverse human kind get something they want.

what is CNN?

What we saw was a news network pop up fully operational with sources in all the hot spots world-wide, and with resources quite equivalent to mature media conglomerations like Associated Press, CBS, NBC, BBC and the rest. A rather amazing feat that we thoughtlessly took for granted. I recently read it referred to as the CIA-News-Network. * BAM * Ohmygosh! They just love putting it right in front of our eyes to watch us miss the obvious… And miss it we did. CNN went from zero to a fully-fledged news organization virtually overnight. Incredible (quite literally, as it turns out). How did a brand new news outlet get people on the ground at the outset of every major, usually […]

self defense stats

FBI Data Shows Armed Citizens Have 94% Success Rate Stopping Would-Be Mass Shooters Photo by Alien Gear Holsters. As the nation mourns the latest tragedy in “gun free zone” Chicago, a recent report compiled by Jacob Paulsen at ConcealedCarry.com shows that armed citizens facing possible mass shooters are able to stop the potential massacre 94% of the time. Paulsen’s study is inspired by John Lott’s consistent analysis of crime and gun laws.   While sourcing data from the FBI and giving a prefrace, Paulsen reports on ConcealedCarry.com: We thought it would be interesting to see if the overall percentage of events at which an armed citizen was present was increasing given the rise in concealed carry permit holders and gun owners nationwide. The data set is […]

remembering 20 years of friendship

Freshly out of the US Air Force, still full of vim, vigor and barely-bridled enthusiasm, I went to a randomly selected used car lot to spice up an otherwise uneventful day with a bit of joy-riding. I had never driven anything but Detroit Iron. This little yellow car called to me. A couple hundred feet down the road, it owned me. I am still, and have always been A CAR GUY. The fit, feel and mechanical precision of this car was light years away from anything I had experienced. I did not figure a part-time clerk/shelf-stocker attending college on the GI Bill would qualify for a loan on it, but the very next day, I traded my ’67 Plymouth for […]
