Real headlines tell you what the story is about. Interest in the story entices you to further reading. That is called journalism.
Tell them what you are going to tell them.
Then tell them.
Then summarize what you told them.
That is how it was taught. That is how it was, and in professional circles, still is done.

There is a popular Internet and social media trend towards “the teaser”. I suppose this is amateur hour. Fear the story is not really interesting, so they have to trick you into reading further.

Low. Base. Foolish. Silly.

If their story or literary skills aren’t any better than that, reading the headline is all they get of my time.

I sure hope the marketplace doesn’t reward this in a race to the bottom.
