distilling

distill_labThat the 40-somethings have nothing to learn from their parents has one of two possible assumptions.

1) Nature made a breakthrough in a single generation. Thousands of years of evolution suddenly spiked in the late 1900s making the current crop of middle-agers genius when compared with their parents.

2) Humans peak somewhere in their 40s and become stupider and stupider over the next 40 years.

I would rather think option #1 happened than that my kids have given up hope of gaining knowledge over the next 20 years.

But I know this is a product of the deliberate breakdown in nuclear families and the programming that there are experts outside of, and superior to, families, and that matriarchs, patriarchs, wise old men and medicine women are obsolete concepts.

Government-anointed experts are to be trusted. Parents not.

the gulag archipelagoI wish they’d ponder where the special genius of these experts came from. Do their 40-something kids worship the ground their parents trod or does wizardry only reside in strangers?

But it is all a setup. They are mere victims. So am I. So is our society.

They may understand some day. Hopefully we won. Maybe we didn’t. I dearly hope they don’t awaken in Aleksandr I. Solzhenitsyn’s Gulag Archipelago. There will be no gratification that they finally understood me then.

I can’t fix it.

I remain as dispassionate as I can.
Don’t strain to fix what you have no control over.
