I just received an e-mail from an Idaho LP chairman who preceded me questioning the value of the Libertarian Party. My answer follows.

I think the Libertarian Party is the only hope for a political solution; that by holding out the hope of a non-aggression, non-statist political solution we serve as a standard; a target for people to compare their collectivist solutions to.

I don’t think it will work. I don’t think we can match the “educational efforts” of those who own the media (and the government and the schools). I don’t think the sheep will wake up before they die by impact at the bottom of the cliff.

I will happily be wrong. That is why I give a piece of myself to the libertarian party. That is why I write for IdahoLiberty.net. It is so much cheaper than the alternative.

The alternative is what I really expect to happen. Those who would FAR PREFER to be at the top of a dung heap than in the middle of the most successful society and culture the world has ever seen will win. What could be will never be. Our world will turn to SH** [dung]. The black market will be the only thing that separates the begging, scavenging mongrels from those in the middle of the subsistence level.

I am inadequately preparing for a future with one foot in the slave galley and one in the black market. I’d prepare better, but even I can’t believe it’s going to happen. My analytical mind KNOWS it HAS TO HAPPEN, but more than my lifetime’s-worth of history says it won’t; never has; never will. So I continue to prepare with my left hand while my main focus is on my right that is just getting by in the day-to-day world.

My insurance policy against my unwillingness to accept reality is that I have a lot of tools, a lot of skills and I seem to be able to think circles around Joe Public – and Joe Public has to be allowed to survive for the parasites to live off of.
